Why I Need a Plan (or, dinner makes me crazy!)

 2012-04-05_0029-copy

I have found in my life as a mom to three li’l monsters that if I am not organized with the things that HAVE to get done, then things don’t get done well, and sometimes not at all. Take for instance my always absolutely clean and sparkling well-loved house! If I don’t make a concerted effort to do the must-do tasks every day, the house becomes almost unlivable.

The same goes for food.

Three li’l monsters can put down alot of grub! And they want to eat at least three times daily! If I don’t have some organization in place, they get hungry in a hurry, and have you ever met a hungry monster!? It isn’t a pretty sight!

So here is how our day usually goes. (This is a very flexible schedule… actually it tends to be more of a routine… we usually do things sort of in this order, but some days things might not get done until later in the day.)

First, the monsters very rudely awaken their very-exhausted-stayed-up-too-late-to-have-a-moment-to-herself momma, by jumping on her head. And she groggily drags her tired body to hte kitchen to pour a bowl of cereal into a bowl for the kiddos, and make a cuppa’joe with caramel creamer (for me), which will maybe help wake her up!

Once mommy is a little more awake, and has had a small gander at email and Facebook, we try to straighten up a bit, and unload the dishwasher.

Then we work on schoolwork (because they are homeschooled), which always prompts cries of "I’m hungry!"

So we then heat up some leftovers (because mommy planned it that way!), and enjoy some lunch.

After lunch, if we have finished our school work, the kiddos are off to play outside for a while, so Mommy doesn’t go completely crazy from the screaming and whining (mostly from Mom)!

Now it’s about right now that I begin thinking, "what is for dinner tonight?" And without a plan… I begin to panic! Oh man, everything is frozen and there is no way I can cook it that fast, etc. etc. So most days without a plan, I end up making spaghetti, or rice and gravy, or something really easy, or even fast food, because I can’t bear to think about a big dinner production. And then dinner ends up being less balanced, less healthy, and many times less tasty than it should be.

I have found that a menu plan for the week can save my sanity. No more deciding at 3 pm what I should have decided yesterday (or a week ago). It has already been decided, and I don’t have to worry about it anymore. And because I figured out my menu before I went grocery shopping, I have everything I need!

So I thought I would share my menu for the week with you here.

mpm-1

As I said before, breakfast and lunch are usually pretty simple, consisting of cereal, or oatmeal, or toast for breakfast most days, and leftovers or sandwiches for lunch.

So this menu is going to consist of only our dinner plans for the week.

Monday Pot Roast with Potatoes, Carrots, and Celery in the Crock-pot
Tuesday Crock Pot Pulled Pork Sandwiches
Coleslaw (my hubby makes this, and I don’t have any idea what he puts in it!)
Microwave Baked Apples
Wednesday Beef and Barley Soup made from the leftovers of the pot roast
Thursday Chicken Stir-fry
Brown Rice (Make extra for Sunday)
Friday Pasta
Spaghetti Sauce from the freezer
Green Beans
Saturday Pulled Pork Pizza
(Made with Leftovers from Tuesday)
Sunday Creamy Italian Slow Cooker Chicken
served over Brown Rice (from Thursday)
Side Salad
These recipes are linked up to Allrecipes.com, which is my very favorite recipe site in the world. They are very similar to what I will be making, but I have made a few changes to some of them.

I am linking this post up over at Organization Junkie, where you will find lots of great menu planning ideas, and tips.

So what are you making for dinner this week? Do you plan your menus every week? Do you have any great menu-planning tips for this Monster Momma? I can always use a good tip that makes life easier.

Featured Designer at Stuff to Scrap!

Hey everyone! I hope this year is treating you well so far. Did you make resolutions? Are you still keeping them??? I decided this year I am not making resolutions, because I always get discouraged when I can’t do it. Benjamin Franklin had a great idea I think. He had a virtue that he worked on to build his character. So instead of resolutions, I decided to take a lesson from one of the most brilliant minds in America’s history, and have a keyword or theme for the year. Something I want to work on in every aspect of my life.

My word this year is consistency. I have always struggled with being really excited about things at first, but then once the newness is gone, I have a hard time being consistent. So that is the virtue I am going to work on this year. I will try to post here and let you know how I am doing throughout the year… I am excited! lol. Let’s see if I can be consistent in this!

Well I came here to tell you all about some exciting things going on this week at Stuff to Scrap! I am the FEATURED DESIGNER this week! YAY! There are lots of fun things going on and I hope you will come over and get involved!

You can get this entire kit by being involved in the Featured Designer Activities this week!

Welcome to a New Year!

Wow, another year is gone! When I was a kid, I would wish away the days, so that the next big holiday or birthday would be here, so that I would be a grown-up. Now that I am a grown-up, I wish for the days when I was a kid, with nothing more to worry about than making sure all of my i’s were dotted and t’s crossed on my latest English essay!

I think New Year’s Day is one of my favorite holidays, because it signifies a new start, a clean slate. A fresh year with no mistakes, or troubles. No harsh words spoken, only a whole year of possibilities ahead.

This month’s Blog Train theme is Refresh, which I think is very fitting at the beginning of the year. It’s a good time to look back on last year’s victories and defeats, and look forward to new and better things in the new year with a fresh perspective. So here is a fresh clean alpha to go with all of the cute minis in this month’s blog train. Be sure to collect all of the great items this month. You can find a full list here.

You should have come from jusme digital, and the next stop on the train is Outside the Box Design Studio.

I have some new releases to share too! I am really excited about this month’s Build a Kit at Stuff to Scrap! The theme this month is “Cozy”, which is perfect in all of the coldness we are having here in the north. Wintertime is hard on my kiddos because they love to be outside, and when it’s really cold outside, they don’t like being out for long. So I try to make up for it with lots of snuggles! So I created this kit, which is perfect for all of those cuddly moments with the babies!

Available exclusively at Stuff to Scrap this month! Grab them all HERE!
